What a 60 minute timer is good for

A 60 minute timer is for deep work: a draft, exam revision, a long problem set, or a full class activity. An hour gives a task room to breathe, so you can get through the slow first stretch and into the part where real progress happens.

Because an hour is a big block, set yourself up before you start. Silence notifications, keep water and notes within reach, and plan a proper break afterwards so the next hour starts fresh.

Try it for

  • Write a draft or report
  • Exam revision
  • A full class activity
  • A long workout or rehearsal
  • Focused project work
  • A study group round

Getting the most from 60 minutes

  1. Protect the hour

Close other tabs and silence notifications before you press Start. The floating timer keeps the clock in view without the rest of the page.

  2. Pause when you have to

Life interrupts. Press Pause or the spacebar, deal with it, then Resume. The clock picks up exactly where it stopped.

  3. Need longer than an hour?

Set a custom time accepts up to 24 hours. Past 99 minutes, the display switches to hours so the digits still fit.

60 Minute Timer questions

Is an hour too long to focus?

Not for work that takes a while to get into, like writing or revision. If your attention keeps slipping, try two 30 minute blocks with a 5 minute break between.

Is there a 1 hour timer with an alarm?

This is it. Sixty minutes is the bottom face of the cube, and the alarm chimes at zero unless you turn Sound when timer ends off.

Need a different length? Set a custom time on the main timer, or read how the timer works.
