A countdown the whole class can read

A classroom timer has one job: let every student see how long is left without having to ask. This one opens in the digital view, with large digits and a thick bar beneath them that shrinks as time runs down. The bar starts green and fades through orange to red as the minutes go, so even children who can't read a clock yet know when to wrap up.

Press Show on the board and the countdown fills the screen of whatever is connected to the projector or interactive whiteboard. The rest of the page disappears, so nothing competes with the clock, and the control bar fades out once the countdown starts. Press Escape or Exit full screen to get the desktop back.

It runs in the browser already open on the classroom computer. There is nothing to install and no account for the school to approve.

Use it for

  • Silent reading
  • Timed quizzes
  • Group work rotations
  • Tidy-up time
  • Think, pair, share
  • Moving between activities

Running timers in class

  1. Say the time out loud as you start

Announce the length and what should be finished by the end. The countdown then backs up your instruction instead of replacing it.

  2. Turn the colours into cues

Agree with the class what orange means, such as finishing the sentence you are on, so the bar does the reminding for you.

  3. Match the sound to the activity

Keep the chime on for group work and tidy-up. Switch it off for quizzes, where the red bar and the message on screen are enough.

Classroom Timer questions

How do I show the timer on the projector?

Open this page on the computer connected to the projector and press Show on the board. The countdown fills the screen until you press Escape.

Can the projector show the timer while the controls stay on my laptop?

Yes, if the projector is a second screen rather than a mirror. Press Second screen, drag the new window onto the projector and click it to fill the screen. The controls stay on your laptop.

Can students at the back read it?

In full screen the digits scale to the width of the display, and the colour bar is thick enough to follow from across the room.

What lengths can I use?

The presets cover 5 to 60 minutes and the page opens on 10. For anything else, such as 3 minutes for a quick task, set a custom time of up to 24 hours.

Does it work on a smartboard or Chromebook?

Yes. It works in any modern browser, and the buttons are large enough to tap on a touch screen.

Can my school get its own branded version?

Yes. For a one-time fee you get a copy with your school's name and logo, free of ads and tracking, to host on your own website. Email support@webzido.com for a quote.
